10 Upcoming Comic Book Movies That Have Nothing To Do With Marvel Or DC
3. Queen & Country
Greg Rucka's spy thriller is of a very different bent to MIND MNGT. For one thing, there's no psychic people. For another, it's a fairly down-to-Earth and familiar kind of story but it's a taught, tense type of thriller, and told in spectacular fashion. Spanning 32 issues published between 2001 and 2007, Queen & Country actually takes its concept from an unlikely source. Focussing on Tara Chace, an operative of the Special Operations Section of Britain's Secret Intelligence Service (that's MI6 to most people), it's essentially a mash-up of the derring-do of James Bond and the bureaucratic, political complications of Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy. Rucka was inspired by cult seventies ITV spy drama The Sandbaggers, about men and women on the front lines of the Cold War, with the personal and professional lives of secret agents given equal airing. That's an interesting twist on the spy genre, and a female Bond is still pretty radical; Ellen Page has long been in negotiations to star, which would be absolutely perfect.
