10 Upcoming Comic Book Villains Hollywood Will Probably Ruin

2. Mole Man - Fantastic Four 2

The Villain: Mole Man is a genius scientist with a preternatural understanding of technology as well as a series of heightened senses, and he's also a fine hand-to-hand combatant, while also equipped with a series of blaster and cannon-type weapons, and commanding an army of goons. Why He'll Be Ruined: Now, this one's a little complicated, because Tim Blake Nelson confirmed in 2014 that he had been cast as Harvey Elder, Mole Man's alter ego, in this summer's Fantastic Four. However, when Fox and Josh Trank jointly bungled the movie's production, it seems that Nelson's character was renamed to Harvey Allen in re-shoots and any hint that he would become Mole Man was completely removed. Sources have since confirmed that the original FF script did indeed feature a clear set-up for Mole Man to become the baddie in FF2. Now, even though FF bombed catastrophically at the box office, Fox are apparently keen to pursue a sequel to prevent the rights from reverting to Marvel, so the question arises: if that does in fact happen, will Mole Man be re-inserted as the Big Bad? Or will Doom return from his bizarre demise? Or will the movie throw Galactus in instead? Given that Nelson is likely already under contract for FF2, it would make sense to at least make use of him (and let's face it, nobody's going to remember that he was called Allen rather than Elder in two years' time), though of course, on the basis of this incredibly shaky foundation, it's tough to believe that, even if Mole Man does show up in FF2, that it'd be anything more than a disastrous portrayal. If Fox couldn't even nail a character as simple as Doom, what hope could they possibly have with Mole Man?
