10 Upcoming Film Blockbusters We've Already Given Up On

2. Hercules

Release Date: July 25, 2014 There's a joke that goes around which says that Brett Ratner is a terrible director. Well, it's not really a joke as much as it is a very precise and very accurate observation. And so, for Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, who has spent the sum of his career playing tough guys with big muscles and manly quips, Hercules probably isn't going to end up being very good. Based on a series of comics of the same name by Steve Moore and Admira Wijaya, the movie sees Hercules, played by Johnson (of course), going up against a tyrannical warlord because that's the plot, people. Nothing about this flick looks promising. Even when you put aside the fact that it's directed by notorious douchebag Brett Ratner, the sight of the Rock with a weird beard is off-putting, too. And the trailer, though clearly trying to capture the feel of an "epic," falls flat as it fails to differentiate itself from pretty much every other movie we've already seen in this vein. Wrath of the Titans? 300: Rise of an Empire? That new Conan movie everyone forgot to go and see? They all just blur into one - even the fact that Ian McShane and John Hurt co-star here fails to excite. Almost without a doubt, this movie is going to end up being exactly like all the movies it copied in order to exist. Which is sad, really, given that the Rock himself was so darn excited about playing Hercules. We'll still love you, Rock... even if this turns out awful. Check the poster if you're unsure: it looks like it was mocked up in 20 minutes.
