10 Upcoming Film Blockbusters We've Already Given Up On

7. The Maze Runner

Release Date: September 19, 2014 One could certainly argue that, given the strength of its source material, it would only be fair to give this upcoming YA novel adaptation the benefit of the doubt. Granted, is it a little cynical to "give up on it" without actually seeing anything but a trailer? At a time when YA novel adaptations are akin to box office gold, then, it's obvious that studios are looking to find the next Harry Potter or Twilight or Hunger Games, but are coming up noticeably short. The recent release of the thoroughly underwhelming Divergent proves that finding the next "hit" isn't all that easy. So The Maze Runner, which takes many of its cues from the Hunger Games (and similarly themed "let's put a bunch of kids in an arena" YA novels), focuses on a boy named Thomas who awakes to find himself in an endless maze without any memories of the outside world. As you can probably imagine, it's set in your classic YA dystopian future - are there any YA novels out there that aren't these days? - and is rumoured to become a franchise pending box office results (there are three more books, don't you know?). There's potential, then, but is anyone else bored? Which is another way of saying: with the next Hunger Games already on its way, and Divergent currently in cinemas, it's hard to generate any enthusiasm for another movie in this vein. Especially since it's to be directed by a man who doesn't even have a Wikipedia page - a man named "Wes Ball." Still, it does have Kaya Scodelario. Which is nice.
