10 Upcoming Film Blockbusters We've Already Given Up On

5. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

Release Date: August 8, 2014 It's hard to know what to expect from a film called Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - especially one produced by explosion master Michael Bay - because it's called Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Given its cult status as one of the most beloved cartoon's of all-time, however, it's difficult not to have preconceived notions about what, exactly, a movie of this status should entail. Last week, the first trailer premiered online, and reception was mixed - some said it looks liked a total blast, whereas others complained that the whole thing looked far too "Michael Bay." In actuality, the Michael Bay criticisms seem to be kind of on point: the trailer depicts a large scale city succumbing to an explosive attack, whilst Megan Fox's April O'Neil stares in horror as things break around her (much like she did in the first two Transformers movies, albeit in much less clothing). The turtles themselves, then? They don't look terrible, per se, but they look noticeably out of place in the real world, too. And not in a particularly good way. Trying to rally much enthusiasm for this project is tough, then: it seems unlikely that a film with Michael Bay's name attached to it is going to be much more than "Transformers, but with Turtles." Depending on how well you tolerate those sorts of adapted methods will presumably reflect on how much you enjoy the film. Did we also mention that it's directed by the guy who helmed both Wrath of the Titans and Battle: Los Angeles? Don't hold your breath.
