10 Upcoming Film Reboots Nobody Asked For

8. Police Academy

Police Academy

Police Academy is a franchise that should be ditched in a hole and buried 6 foot deep. Talks of an eight installment have been floating about the internet and mentioned in interviews with old cast members for a while now, and it's fair to say that nobody apart from the small group of people that actually own all seven movies care in the slightest way. The majority of us didn't even know that there was already seven of them. Considering that nobody has cared about any of the sequels to the mildly amusing original, it does make you wonder what execs in Hollywood are smoking. Then again, what the hell were they smoking when they decided to send the academy to Moscow back in 1994? You haven't seen the majority of the sequels and if you know someone who has, you certainly don't like them (film historian Leonard Maltin brilliantly stated that the film could be used as a "great weapon" between the US and the Soviet Union). There have been casting rumours, of course, such as Shaquille O'Neal being offered the role that was played by the late Bubba Smith, and Bobcat Goldhwait (cool name) released a statement in 2010 urging Hollywood to go for an entirely new cast. He's correct, as it is definitely the only way that Police Academy would possibly appeal to new audiences. Nobody wants to see the original cast as pensioners acting like children - not even fans of the original. But even if the entire cast is replaced, I sense that there is going to be very little interest by anyone at all. Like I said, bury it.
