50 Shades of Grey

Fifty Shades Of Grey may have swept the board at the 2016 Razzie Awards (winning Worst Picture, Actor, Actress, Screenplay and Worst Screen Combo), but it also made $561 worldwide. The 11th most popular film of 2015, it made more money than Mad Max: Fury Road, Ant Man or San Andreas.

Due for release in February 2017, Fifty Shades Darker is more of the same, but the franchise’s success has allowed the filmmakers to rope in Oscar winners Marcia Gay Harden and Kim Basinger as Mrs Grey and Elena Lincoln, aka “Mrs Robinson.” The movie might be trash, but it at least has a veneer of respectability.

When the Daily Mail printed photographs of Dakota Johnson on set, they perfectly gauged the film’s audience by focusing on the star’s appearance rather than plot details. “The movie star showed off her svelte frame in skintight denim bottoms, opting to pair it with a striped top,” they wrote. “She pulled her dark locks back into a low ponytail while sporting a heavy fringe.”
