10 Upcoming Horror Movies Facing ONE Big Problem

2. The Carpenter Sisters' Absence - Scream 7

To call development of the seventh Scream film awkward is quite the understatement, for though this should've been a slam dunk of a sequel to put together after the success of Scream VI, everything fell apart late last year.

It all began when lead Melissa Barrera was fired from Scream 7 after making pro-Palestine remarks on social media, and co-star Jenna Ortega departed the movie the very next day, allegedly over a salary dispute - though many naturally believe she really departed in solidarity with Barrera.

This led Scream 7 to be reworked, shuffling out the Carpenter sisters and bringing Neve Campbell back to reprise her role as original heroine Sidney Prescott, with franchise creator Kevin Williamson in the director's chair for the first time.

Given that Scream 7 was expected to be the trilogy-capping final chapter in the Carpenters' story, the sequel is in the uncomfortable position of either having to explain their absences or just... not mentioning them altogether, neither of which is likely to go down well with the fanbase.

Plus, with many feeling that Sidney's story was quite ably wrapped up in the fifth Scream, there are those lamenting that she's being pulled back into the fold at all.
