10 Upcoming Horror Movies Facing ONE Big Problem
3. Nobody Asked For It - The Blair Witch Project Reboot
Perhaps the single toughest hurdle to any film's existence is total indifference from its own target audience, as is most certainly the case with the recently announced reboot of found footage masterpiece The Blair Witch Project.
Lionsgate and Blumhouse confirmed that the reboot was in development earlier this year, without the involvement of original filmmakers Daniel Myrick and Eduardo Sánchez or cast members Joshua Leonard, Heather Donahue, and Michael C. Williams.
The cast and crew have spoken extensively about their disappointment in being left out of the new film, but honestly, given how neither of the current cinematic follow-ups to the original 1999 film delivered worthy results, there's clearly minimal-at-best fan interest in another movie.
Not all horror movies were built to be franchises, and evidently The Blair Witch Project works just great as a single standalone entity. Couple this with the undeniable decline of the found footage subgenre in recent years, and the desire for a new Blair Witch just isn't there.
