10 Upcoming Legacy Movie Sequels That Feel Inevitable
9. The Mummy 4
There's absolutely no denying that Brendan Fraser's career resurgence - his Brenaissance, even - is at a glorious peak right now, and as such there's never been a greater likelihood that Universal will finally pull the trigger on a fourth entry into his beloved Mummy franchise.
Even though the latter two movies weren't nearly as good as the original, there's a lot of fondness for Fraser's central performance and easy chemistry with Rachel Weisz, which simply wasn't replicated by 2017's atrocious Tom Cruise-starring reboot.
It's been almost an entire 15 years since Fraser's third Mummy movie, Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, and though Fraser isn't in quite the same A-list shape today, it still feels like audiences en masse, with their affection for the actor, would be game for seeing him play an older Rick O'Connell.
A key piece of the puzzle, though, would be whether or not Weisz could be lured back to play female lead Evelyn Carnahan once more, because recasting her with Maria Bello in the third film was one of its undeniable low-points.
Given the resurgence of throwback adventure films in recent times, a modestly-budgeted fourth Mummy film could be a major crowd-pleaser, especially if pairing Fraser and Weisz with some younger comrades who can perhaps do most of the heavy physical lifting.
