10 Upcoming Movie Adaptations That Prove There Is No God
2. The Equalizer
Some readers of a certain age may recall sneakily getting up to watch the TV series of The Equalizer as a kid, lapping up Edward Woodward's great performance as the ex-intelligence officer who helps out people in trouble. In a way it's surprising that it's taken so long for Hollywood to get round to adapting it to the big screen, given that the series aired between 1985 and 1989 - but finally, here it comes. A big screen adaptation of The Equalizer shouldn't in theory be such a bad thing - that is, until you read up on who's involved. First up behind the camera is Hollywood journeyman Antoine Fuqua, director of such contemporary classics as The Replacement Killers, King Arthur and Olympus Has Fallen. Hot on the heels delivering the script is Richard "The Expendables 2" Wenk, with Denzel Washington attempting to fill Woodward's shoes - naturally, this time around he's a former black ops commando (intelligence officer clearly not being macho enough in this day and age). Okay, so The Equalizer was never exactly sophisticated, but throw Russian gangsters and a prostitute played by Chloe Moretz into the mix and after 90 minutes in the oven what you're left with is one of the most predictable-sounding action-thrillers coming out this year.
