10 Upcoming Movie Reboots That Might Actually Work
8. Superman
Though in recent years it's seemed increasingly likely that Henry Cavill is 100% done as Superman, it was still a surprise to hear earlier this year that Warner Bros. and DC were already setting in motion the superhero's next reboot.
J.J. Abrams will produce a new Superman film with renowned author Ta-Nehisi Coates penning the script, while the studio is reportedly considering the likes of Steven Caple Jr., J.D. Dillard, Regina King, Shaka King, Barry Jenkins and Ryan Coogler to direct.
The film will be focused around a Black Superman, with Warner Bros. currently considering actors for the part, though sadly Michael B. Jordan has already ruled himself out of the role. It may ultimately end up going to a lesser-known actor, as is tradition.
While this new movie has been dubbed a reboot internally, Warner Bros. hasn't yet confirmed whether it will be a full continuity reboot or a "soft-reboot" as part of the DCEU, the latter possibly with some help from the multiverse set to be introduced in The Flash's solo movie.
Either way, with such a different creative team at the helm, it seems likely to be a far cry from Zack Snyder's interpretation of the Man of Steel.
As well-cast as Cavill was in the role, it'll be nice to get the character away from the stink of his messy portrayal in the DCEU, as much as Zack Snyder's Justice League made a solid effort to redeem him.
The project is far too early in development to set a release date, but with Coates expected to have his script turned in by the end of the year, it could very well end up shooting next year for a 2023 release.
