Released in 1986, Highlander it became a beloved cult classic, inspiring five films, the last of which came out in 2007 and aired on the Sci-Fi channel. The franchise also included a TV series that originally aired from 1992-1998, a spin-off series that ran for one year, an animated series that ran for two season and two animated films.
Why It Might Work:
The reboot will be directed by Chad Stahelski. Work as a stunt double has given Stahelski an eye for action and his work as director on all three John Wick films makes it clear he will be a good fit for Highlander.
Originally planned as a film, Stahelski has spoken about wanting to do the sweeping story justice. He is considering whether a serial format, perhaps through a streaming service, might better explore the universe. It's clear the director has a lot of love for this property and is taking his time developing the franchise, which should mean good things for the reboot.
