7. Doctor Dolittle
The classic novel has spawned many adaptions - most recently the 1998 Doctor Dolittle starring Eddie Murphy, a sequel in 2001, then three more direct-to-video films starring Kyla Pratt in 2006, 2008, 2009. It seemed that the franchise had died a quiet death until a reboot was announced.
Why It Might Work:
Starring Robert Downey Jr., The Voyage Of Doctor Dolittle has been pushed back from 2019 to 2020 rumored to accommodate multiple reshoots and rewrites. For a film with a star-studded voice-acting cast playing the speaking animals, musical score by Danny Elfman, and a reported $175m dropped, there is surprisingly still very little news about the plot.
This might be a sign of a crash and burn film to come, but with Avengers: Endgame exiting Iron Man from the franchise, the idea of a big budget film starring Robert Downey Jr. and featuring an animal Tom Holland sounds like good fun.
