10 Upcoming Movie Remakes You Should Be More Annoyed About Than Ghostbusters

3. Jumanji

Power Rangers Ghostbusters
TriStar Pictures

Yes, the Jumanji remake will star The Rock and we all love The Rock and he's franchise viagra and all that, but for all his charisma Dwayne Johnson isn't exactly the best at picking quality movies. What he is is a box office draw capable of elevating bad material to average, and that's hardly a massive endorsement.

So the movie's probably not going to be all that special (it's directed by Jake Kasdan, who's only notable for carving out a niche in sh*tty Cameron Diaz movies), but what can you really expect? The whole point of Jumanji is unlimited potential, something a remake seems to actively work against, because you just know it'll be tied far too heavily to the ideas of the first.

There's already been plenty of riffs on the concept of a magic board game (most prominently Jon Favreau's Zathura) and the concept itself is rooted in the works of Carroll and Lewis, so why not take things a step further and craft a new franchise? We'd all see it too, because we all love The Rock.
