10 Upcoming Movie Remakes You Should Be More Annoyed About Than Ghostbusters

2. Pete's Dragon

The Jungle Book has given Disney's reimagining binge an air of legitimacy, showing that they can advance themes and ideas from the original in the translation to live-action. Suddenly the likes of Beauty And The Beast and Cruella don't seem as offensive.

The same optimism can't quite be said of the straight-up remakes of live-action/animation mash-ups - whereas there's a form shift for the likes of Cinderella, here it's just a retread/extension for the sake of it. Mary Poppins Returns hits in 2018, Something Wicked This Way Comes is proposed and they'd probably fast-track Song Of The South if there was a way to avoid its intrinsic racism. Before all those, though, comes Pete's Dragon, which is released in only two months. You read that right - two months.

The original is no classic, so it's not quite as affronting, but there's a stronger whiff of pointlessness to it, especially as the cartoon style was kinda the point. Just wait for Roger Rabbit with CGI creatures...
