7. Sandra Bullock - As An Astronaut (Gravity)
A strange phenomenon erupted when I saw a trailer for Gravity in the cinema; I was gripped by the majesty of Alfonso Cuaron's vision, but I noticed that many audience members seemed to laugh at the terrifying scenario. Mystified, I browsed various Internet message boards to gauge the general response, only to see that some found Sandra Bullock's casting to be the prime laughing point, that as a medical engineer sent into space, she was utterly, utterly miscast. I'll be the first to admit that hearing her signature screams as she gets flung around the space station is a little off-putting, but frankly, what else should we expect? Still, the notion of a space engineer looking like Bullock is ridiculous to many, and whether it's true to life or not, prejudice is not an easy thing to shift, so expect plenty of unintentional chuckles when audiences do (or don't) finally see it.
