10 Upcoming Movie Sequels Nobody Wants
6. Happy Gilmore 2
Legacy sequels are tricky, and successful ones are incredibly rare. With the exception of Top Gun: Maverick, most films that revisit an old franchise from decades before usually end up harming its legacy more so than honouring or furthering it.
This is certainly a huge risk with Adam Sandler returning to the character of Happy Gilmore. The hockey player turned golfer is one of the actor's most popular roles, with the 1996 film ranking as one of Sandler's best even all these years later, but what more is there to come from him?
With Christopher McDonald set to return as Shooter McGavin, there will likely be more of their fun dynamic, but is that reason enough to bring them back? Does this not just scream of a nostalgia-fuelled cash grab destined to fail?
As beloved as Happy Gilmore is, Adam Sandler has shown later in his career that he has a lot more to offer than all those years ago. How about more in the same vein as Uncut Gems and Hustle than the old-school Sandler roles he has proved he may have, for lack of a better word, outgrown?
