10 Upcoming Movie Sequels That Are A Really Bad Idea
8. Gladiator 2
Ridley Scott's Best Picture-winning 2000 epic Gladiator told a pretty open-and-closed story, enough that various attempts to make either a prequel or sequel have simply failed to gain traction.
But in 2017, Scott renewed his efforts to produce a follow-up, later confirming that it would take place years later and focus on Lucilla's (Connie Nielsen) son Lucius (as played by Spencer Treat Clark in the original film) becoming emperor.
Back in January, the currently unnamed sequel was confirmed to be gearing up for production for a November 22, 2024 release, with the recently Oscar-nominated Paul Mescal signed to play an adult version of Lucius.
As much of an impressive workhorse as the 85-year-old Scott is, the man's track record with sequels and prequels isn't great - Hannibal, Prometheus, and Alien: Covenant, anyone?
Everybody wants this to be great, but coming almost an entire quarter-century after the original, which tied things off quite neatly no less, it's tough to be particularly enthusiastic. Can't we get a Master and Commander sequel instead?
