10 Upcoming Movie Sequels That Are A Really Bad Idea
7. I Know What You Did Last Summer 3
To be fair, there are technically already three entries into the I Know What You Did Last Summer franchise, as the two original films were followed by 2006's direct-to-video follow-up I'll Always Know What You Did Last Summer.
The threequel was however entirely unrelated to its predecessors and made such little impact that all but the most hardcore fans of the series likely aren't even aware of its existence.
But just recently, Sony announced that a legit threequel was in the works - a direct sequel to the two original Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr.-starring movies.
Even with the solid Jennifer Kaytin Robinson (Do Revenge) tapped to direct, and '90s nostalgia hitting its peak right now, it's tough to see this announcement as anything more than Sony lazily attempting to cash-in on the horror legacy sequel boom.
But Halloween and Scream are basically the genre outliers that've pulled it off well, and as commercially successful as the original I Know What You Did Last Summer was, it doesn't carry nearly the same amount of cultural cachet as the aforementioned franchises.
More to the point, sequel I Still Know What You Did Last Summer flopped at the box office back in 1998, and the recent Amazon series was cancelled after a single season, so Sony may be vastly overestimating how much people actually care about these films.
