10 Upcoming Movie Sequels That Are A Really Bad Idea

Twister may not have been a critical smash, but the 1996 epic disaster flick categorically tore up the box office, grossing almost $500 million against a $92 million budget.

It's a huge surprise, then, that Universal didn't quickly pull the trigger on a sequel that reunited Helen Hunt and Bill Paxton for another go-around.

A Twister sequel was first announced in 2020, with it being confirmed late last year that the follow-up will be a legacy sequel called Twisters, with Minari director Lee Isaac Chung set to helm a script written by Mark L. Smith (The Revenant).

Twisters, which is set to start shooting in a few short weeks, will see Helen Hunt reprising her role of Dr. Jo Harding, while sharing the screen with the daughter of her and Paxton's characters, who follows in her parents' storm-chasing footsteps.

Despite the solid behind-the-camera talent involved, this feels like a textbook case of a belated sequel that's just taken too long to come together.

With Bill Paxton sadly passing away in 2017, his absence will be sorely felt in this new movie, basically underlining the fact that it should've been made within 20 years of the original.

This, combined with Chung's lack of experience with blockbuster filmmaking - Minari cost just $2 million - makes it incredibly easy to be skeptical about how this one turns out.
