10 Upcoming Movie Sequels That Are A Really Bad Idea
3. The Strangers 3, 4 & 5
Despite The Strangers: Prey at Night posting an underwhelming critical and commercial performance, it still turned enough of an easy profit on its mere $5 million budget that not one, not two, but three sequels are currently being shot.
Crazier still, all three movies are being filmed back-to-back, with Renny Harlin (Die Hard 2) directing the lot, and lead actress Madelain Petsch set to start in the entire trilogy.
A third Strangers movie isn't an inherently awful idea, but committing to two additional sequels does feel a bit like putting the cart before the horse, no?
Plus, given that Renny Harlin's filmography has been littered with critically panned duds for the last 20 years, is there much faith that he'll do anything interesting with these movies at all?
With their evidently low budgets and the likelihood they'll forego theatrical releases in favour of being dumped on streaming, these projects feel less lke worthy sequels and more like cynical attempts to extend the dubious Strangers brand. It'd be great to be wrong, though.
