10 Upcoming Movie Sequels That Are A Really Bad Idea
2. Toy Story 5
Toy Story 3 brought Pixar's flagship animated franchise to such a perfectly fitting conclusion that there was a collective groan among fans when Disney announced that a fourth film was in development.
And while Toy Story 4 was absolutely not a "necessary" sequel and assuredly the "worst" of the four films, it nevertheless delivered an entertaining and emotional epilogue to the third film's ending.
But just recently, Disney CEO Bob Iger confirmed that Toy Story 5 is indeed happening, with Tim Allen confirmed to be returning as Buzz Lightyear - though Tom Hanks' status as Woody remains up in the air.
Once again, the fanbase questioned why Disney felt so intent to not simply let a classic, completed story lie. The answer, as ever, is money.
Toy Story 5 was confirmed in the same breath that Disney announced layoffs and losses, so it's tough not to view the announcement as a calculated attempt to make some easy profits - especially with all the accompanying merch sales that any Toy Story movie entails.
A Toy Story reboot that's focused on a new band of toys would be acceptable, but it does feel like flogging a dead horse to dust off Buzz and presumably Woody once again for yet another after-the-fact go-around.
Disney, please - just let things end.
