And finally, here's a genre-hopping sequel just about nobody saw coming.
2019's Rebel Wilson-starring Isn't It Romantic was a refreshingly meta spin on the typical rom-com formula, yet also a movie that pretty much came and went in record time without making much of a dent.
That is to say, nobody expected a follow-up, and definitely not one like this.
In May 2024, New Line Cinema was said to be in early development of comedy sequel Isn't It Scary, which would be lampooning the horror genre in much the same fourth wall-breaking manner that the first film did the rom-com.
At present it isn't clear if Rebel Wilson will return in the lead role or who will direct, though April Prosser (Look Both Ways) has been tapped to pen the script.
We've not heard anything further about the sequel since its announcement over a year ago, but it's absolutely a follow-up that not a single solitary soul had on their bingo card.
Considering how few horror comedies we get these days, though, there's definitely an appetite for more of them.
