Why You Should Watch It: It's a freaking Pokémon movie in which Ryan Reynolds voices Pikachu and isn't even trying to pretend he isn't Deadpool. And that's not even the weirdest thing about it - furry Jigglypuff, anyone? What more could you want, really?

Why You'll Actually Watch It: To see if Hollywood finally made a video game movie that doesn't suck.

Gamers have long suffered under Hollywood's utter lack of respect for the medium, and though there have been some more encouraging efforts in recent years, there still hasn't been an enthusiastically acclaimed video game movie to date.

Detective Pikachu will print money no matter what, but it sure would be the icing on the cake if it also ends up scoring a solid 60+% on Rotten Tomatoes. And to be honest, that's looking pretty likely on the basis of that first trailer.
