One of the most surprising movie moments of 2017 was the revelation that M. Night Shyamalan's Split was a sequel to his 2000 film, Unbreakable.

Fans of the latter had been clamouring for a sequel for years, and it came in the most unexpected fashion imaginable. Shyamalan has built a career on this surprise factor, and Glass - which will continue the Split/Unbreakable narrative - has the potential to be his most surprising movie yet.

Why? Well, nobody knows exactly what to expect from the film in terms of tone and genre. Will it lean more towards horror, like Split? Will it be a dramatic thriller, like Unbreakable? Or will it incorporate elements of superhero action, something its colourful, comic-book-esque poster suggests might be the case?

So while we know Glass' rough plot outline, Shyamalan's unpredictability will ensure that the only way to know what you're getting will be to visit the cinema and see for yourself. Unbreakable was great, Split was great, and there's no reason why Glass won't be equally as shocking and thrilling.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
