10 Upcoming Movies That Are Already Doomed
3. Michael
Though there's virtually no chance of the upcoming Michael Jackson biopic being a commercial failure, the production sure does sound like an abject mess.
It was initially reported that the film would directly address the 1993 sexual abuse allegations levelled against Jackson, though in early 2025 production was thrown into a tailspin.
The film's producers learned that the Jackson estate had signed an agreement with the family of accuser Jordan Chandler, guaranteeing that Chandler could never be shown in any authorised dramatisation of Jackson's life.
And so, back in June the movie underwent more than three weeks of reshoots to effectively create a new third act.
Recent reports indicate that Michael has basically been reworked into a sanitised, Bohemian Rhapsody-esque biopic that climaxes with a crowd-pleasing concert in the 1980s and largely avoids the darker aspects of the singer's personal life in the decade that followed.
This consequently led to reams of material being left on the cutting room floor, enough that Lionsgate is considering making Michael a two-part cinematic event, with the second movie combining much of the cut footage with new material.
This will apparently depend on how well the first film performs at the box office, but even if Michael is a commercial success, it sure sounds like nobody in charge has really thought long and hard about what a Michael Jackson biopic should be.
