10 Upcoming Movies That Are Already Doomed
2. Honey Don't!
Honey Don't! is a new black comedy from Ethan Coen, following a private detective (Margaret Qualley) who investigates a woman's death and becomes ensnared with a religious cult.
Despite a fun premise that sounds very much within Coen's wheelhouse and a strong ensemble cast including Aubrey Plaza, Chris Evans, Charlie Day, and Billy Eichner, the film ill-advisedly took the risk of premiering at the Cannes Film Festival some three months before its planned release.
Reviews from the festival largely skewed mixed-to-negative, sucking the wind out of the film's sails long before it's actually due to release.
This feels very much like Coen's previous film Drive Away Dolls all over again - a polarising, kitschy B-movie that failed to make a dent with critics or general audiences.
Though the Coen brothers' brand carries undeniable cachet, many are simply waiting for Ethan to get this artistic phase out of his system and return to collaborating with his brother Joel.
