10 Upcoming Movies That Are Already Doomed

3. Clayface

Last December it was confirmed that a movie based on DC villain Clayface had been greenlit, and most excitingly of all, the great Mike Flanagan (Doctor Sleep, Midnight Mass) had penned the script, which excited James Gunn enough that it was fast-tracked for a September 11, 2026 release.

Flanagan's commitments to a new Exorcist film and a Carrie TV series left him unable to direct, but the solid James Watkins (Eden Lake, last year's Speak No Evil remake) was ultimately hired to helm.

However, it was recently announced that Flanagan's script has since been rewritten, with Hossein Amini (Drive) drafted in to do the job.

Though Amini received an Oscar nomination in 1998 for writing the script for The Wings of the Dove, it's also fair to say that his post-Drive filmography has been all over the place.

Amini's most prominent Hollywood gigs include Snow White and the Huntsman, 47 Ronin, and The Snowman, none of which were particularly well-received.

And so, it's tough not to feel pessimistic about Amini being brought in to rework the writing of Flanagan, a filmmaker with a far stronger track record, and whose script Gunn said was one of the strongest of any DCU project in development so far.

It sure sounds like Clayface is about to get a dumbing down, though hopefully the truth is far less dramatic than that.
