10 Upcoming Movies That Are Already Doomed

Even accepting how logistically tricky it was for big-budget movies to shoot in the earlier stages of the pandemic, what the hell is going on with new sci-fi adventure film Distant?

We say "new," but the movie - directed by Josh Gordon and Will Speck (Blades of Glory) - began shooting all the way back in September 2020, and wrapped that November.

Basically, Distant has been stuck in post-production limbo for over three years, with Universal shifting it from its original March 11, 2022 release date three times and being pulled from the slate altogether twice. It was most recently taken off the release calendar in November, and while many COVID-produced films have taken their time to finally hit cinemas for a multitude of practical reasons, almost all of them have still had a sizable marketing presence.

But we've still not seen a trailer or even a single official image from Distant, which some 37 months removed from production wrapping is astonishingly concerning.

Presumably Universal knows they've got a pure dud on their hands and may well be shopping it around to streaming platforms. Or, as has become a worrying trend in recent times, perhaps they might be considering writing it off altogether for the sake of a tax break.

Even if Distant does indeed release in 2024, though, expectations aren't merely low - they're basically non-existent.
