10 Upcoming Movies That Are Already Doomed
2. Mercy
Every year there's one movie that, above all others, is being very obviously dumped in January by a studio that just doesn't give a damn about it.
And in 2026 that film is Mercy, a bizarre sci-fi thriller starring Chris Pratt as a detective accused of murdering his wife.
Rather than be judged by a jury of his peers, however, Pratt's protagonist is up against an AI judge (Rebecca Ferguson). For 90 minutes, he's given unlimited access to cloud data to prove his innocence, and if he can't, he'll be executed.
This one has so many red flags - it wrapped shooting 18 months before the first trailer was released, it's directed by the wildly uneven Timur Bekmambetov (Wanted, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter), and Pratt appears to spend the vast majority of his runtime strapped to a chair.
Couple all this with an outrageous trailer that makes it look like a January Dump Movie in every fiber of its being, and a totally head-scratching IMAX 3D release, and it's near-impossible to picture a reality where this thing is either critically or commercially successful. It's (probably) cooked.
