10 Upcoming Movies That Could Beat Avengers: Endgame At The Box Office
9. Fast And The Furious 9
The Fast and the Furious series has been the most successful action franchise of the 21st century. This automatically makes the next installment a challenger to Avengers: Endgame and perhaps makes the franchise the biggest direct competitor for the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
The Fast and Furious films have come a long way from their humble street racing roots as Dominic Toretto and his crew now fight terrorists to save the World. This series isn't afraid to adapt and change, which has not only kept it relevant, but growing.
Boy have these things have grown. As studio confidence has solidified these films have gotten bigger and more absurd in every way possible. What began as a merry band led by a lesser known Vin Diesel has included Dwayne Johnson, Jason Statham and Charlize Theron. The $38 million budget for The Fast and the Furious versus the $250 million budget for The Fate of the Furious is a perfect illustration of this series' expansion.
The box office has justified this increased spending. The last two films, Furious 7 and The Fate of the Furious, both brought in well over a billion dollars. Furious 7 was particularly successful, grossing $1.5 billion during its theatrical run in 2015. That figure was good for fourth highest all-time upon its release, topping Avengers: Age of Ultron the same year.
There are not many franchises that can say they have beaten an Avengers movie at the box office and The Fast and the Furious is in that elite company. We still don't know the ceiling on this franchise, and it has a swinger's chance to be higher than Avengers: Endgame.
