When Jurassic Park hit the big screen in 1993, it ended its theatrical run as the highest-grossing film ever and became a sci-fi classic. None of the sequels have been able to match the original's quality, but Jurassic World and Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom have been able to match its box office. Any series that produces consecutive billion-dollar movies should be look at as a candidate to top Avengers: Endgame.

After 22 years and two sequels we'd rather forget, 2015's Jurassic World proved dinosaurs can still move the needle. In a year that featured the most successful Fast and Furious movie to date and Age of Ultron, Jurassic World was only topped by The Force Awakens. Jurassic World and its sequel enjoy a comparable box office to The Avengers and Avengers: Age of Ultron.

Where Jurassic World and The Avengers differ, however, is anticipation. Age of Ultron didn't receive the best reception from fans, but it was generally seen as solid and was followed by better MCU films that kept fans engaged. Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom was universally despised by both fans and critics, which could hurt future films in the series.

What Fallen Kingdom did right was set up a sequel with an interesting premise that could put people in seats. It seems as if we will get to see humans and dinosaurs interact in a natural environment, which will be a welcome change from the wreckless use of genetics we've seen so far. If this the case, the next Jurassic World can possibly capture enough goodwill to propel it past Endgame.
