10 Upcoming Movies That Could Beat Avengers: Endgame At The Box Office

Avengers: Endgame isn't the only lengthy series coming to an end this year. Star Wars - The Rise of Skywalker will mark the end of a nine-film arc spanning over 40 years .

The MCU has been hailed by many as this generation's Star Wars, but Star Wars itself may have something to say about that. Star Wars can't hope to compete with the entirety of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but it has stacked up well against past Avengers movies.

The first two films of this current trilogy outpaced the first two Avengers movies by the pretty significant margin of $400 million. There was a slight lag with The Last Jedi (if you consider a $1.3 billion worldwide gross a lag), but the anticipation for the conclusion will rival that of The Force Awakens, the highest-grossing US domestic film.

There are reasons to think The Rise of Skywalker won't top Endgame. The Last Jedi, although a top 10 grossing film all-time upon its release, largely divided fans. The spinoff prequel, Solo, was seen as a box-office disappointment and we don't know what exactly led to the diminished return.

If you're the betting type, however, I wouldn't be the under here. Endgame wrapped a story over 20 movies in the making, but The Rise of Skywalker will be the last chapter of a narrative spanning four decades. The excitement for this movie will be immense and The Rise of Skywalker should not only challenge Endgame, but compete for highest grossing film ever.
