10 Upcoming Movies That Could Beat Avengers: Endgame At The Box Office

Toy Story 3 will surely be among the biggest blockbusters of the year, but it isn't the favorite to be the highest grossing animated movie. That distinction goes to Frozen 2, the follow-up to the 2013 smash hit. If you know transitive law, this makes Frozen 2 an option to unseat Avengers: Endgame at the box office.

Frozen 2 will be the second sequel from Disney Animated Studios, which has produced the likes of Moana, Zootopia and Big Hero Six. The only other sequel, Ralph Breaks the Internet, saw a modest increase in revenue. If that increase were applied to Frozen, however, Frozen 2 would become the highest grossing animated film ever by more the $200 million.

This increase seems like not only a given, but an underestimation. What sets Frozen apart from its siblings at Walt Disney, cousin at Pixar, and all other animated films since perhaps the Lion King, was the sheer amount of noise it made beyond the box office. Frozen was a global sensation and the sequel is poised to take the title back from The Incredibles 2.

Being the top animated movie is one thing, beating Avengers: Endgame is another. To accomplish that feat, the original must inspire a wave of new fans that missed its release in 2013. Given its subject matter and PG rating this is likely to be the case and Frozen 2 will have a new wave of six and under fans this time around. Endgame is a box office monster and maybe it takes Disney royalty to overcome it.
