10 Upcoming Movies That Could Massively Overperform At The Box Office
1. Godzilla: King Of The Monsters
The upcoming sequel to 2014's Godzilla reboot is expected to, at the very least, bring in something similar to its predecessor (an impressive $529 global cume). That said, some appear to be underestimating its potential.
There is a lot working in the sequel's favour which could very well see it overperforming.
First off, Legendary has been doing a bang up job on the marketing front with attention-grabbing posters and three majestic trailers (all of which received overwhelmingly positive receptions) painting it like a grandiose spectacle without giving away significant plot details. On that note, those are the kinds of films that do exceptionally well in China.
Something else that will likely aid its success is the fact that it's the final MonsterVerse movie before next year's heavily-anticipated Godzilla vs. Kong (an advantage that the 2014 film obviously did not have). Furthermore, it will hit theatres in the midst of a slew of potential underperformers (Aladdin, Dark Phoenix and Men In Black: International) which it may be well be able to captialise on.
It could also benefit from the fact that this is Millie Bobby Brown's big-screen debut. The Stranger Things star has an extremely devoted legion of fans that will, no doubt, turn up to see her headline her first film.
Factoring all of that in, it's looking increasingly likely that King of the Monsters will end up obliterating all expectations.
If any movie is destined to pull a Captain Marvel, it's this one.
