8. John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum
John Wick has become something of a box office phenomenon.
The original film was both a critical and commercial success, grossing $88 million worldwide, so, it was natural to expect good things from the sequel. That said, John Wick: Chapter 2 obliterated expectations and went on to gross nearly twice as much as its predecessor, bringing in a whopping $171 million worldwide.
What makes the sequel's dominance even more impressive is that it shattered the initial opening weekend projections of $20 million, opening to a whopping $30 million instead - that's over a third of its predecessor's total gross. With that in mind, there's little reason to expect anything different from John Wick: Chapter 3.
Even opening during the third and second weeks of Avengers: Endgame and Detective Pikachu's respective runs won't do it any harm given that it's appealing to a completely different demographic. One-man action flicks are, in many ways, a thing of the past, so it's easy to see the appeal of the John Wick franchise.
The film is already expected to gross between $30 - 40 million in its opening weekend but, if history has taught us anything, it's that this franchise loves exceeding expectations.
With the trailer for the third installment already receiving a positive reaction, we should be prepared for Keanu Reeves to shoot his way to much greater heights once more.
