The Original Pitch

The upcoming reboot of Masters Of The Universe has cycled through several different iterations, but by far the most "uh-oh" worthy of the bunch is the one that had This Means War and Charlie's Angels director McG attached to direct (yikes) with Hitman: Agent 47 and The Three Musketeers writers Alex Litvak and Michael Finch penning the script (more yikes).

How It's Been Saved

Thankfully, that version has been thrown out the window in its entirety, and some fresh blood has been brought into the fold. The film will be directed by the Nee Brothers, known for their superb little indie film Band Of Robbers, a movie that's better than everything McG has ever helmed.

As for the script, it's being written by experienced duo Art Marcum & Matt Holloway, who penned the first Iron Man film, and, more recently, Men In Black: International. That latter project might set off alarm bells because, well, it was bad, but according to inside reports, its script was terrific - it was just tampered with en route to the finished product.

Even still, Iron Man proved that they have what it takes to launch a new franchise, taking a somewhat silly character and making a palatable film around them. That's basically the job description here.

The final piece of this puzzle is star Noah Centineo, an incredibly likeable and bubbly young actor who is on the cusp of breaking out and becoming a major Hollywood player. Masters Of The Universe is an exciting package, and even if it underperforms commercially, it won't be any worse than the soulless action romp McG would've delivered.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
