As one might expect the upcoming film Roe v. Wade is about the eponymous 1973 trial that acted as a landmark court decision on the constitutionality of abortion rights in the U.S. Filmed secretly in Louisiana during 2018, director, writer, and producer behind the movie Nick Loeb (made famous for being Sofia Vergara's ex-fiance who sued her over their frozen embryos) has stated the film is, "A social war movie where we take both sides of the argument and hopefully let the audience decide."

There seems to be some disagreement over that goal, however, as numerous reports came out of the production that cast and crew hemorrhaged constantly during filming. Even the original director of the film left within the first few days of filming, reportedly because she disagreed with the script's heavy anti-abortion message. A crew member even stated that the producers kept everyone at a distance, refusing to give anyone access to the script, in order to stem the departures. "Instead they've been changing lines and scenes before they shoot."

Roe v. Wade was filmed under the working title 1973 to prevent filming locations from turning them down and to keep protesters from learning about the film, and also apparently to keep the hired help from learning of it, too. Loeb himself recalled an incident where a woman in a headset approached him and threw her gear at him before resigning - he recalled afterward that she was the set's electrician.

Another criticism that has made the rounds is the film's portrayal of Margaret Sanger, the woman who basically coined the term birth control, as a KKK-sympathizer when in reality she was considered ahead of her time by opposing segregation and helping support clinics in Harlem for poor black women.
