10 Upcoming Movies That Have Already Pissed Fans Off
3. The Lord Of The Rings
The Lord of the Rings is highly regarded, almost universally, as one of the greatest film trilogies of all time. Even now, two decades after their initial release, Peter Jackson's original Middle-earth movies stand up to scrutiny. However, this has become something of a double-edged sword.
Hollywood has a habit of taking successful movie franchises too far. Neither the Hobbit trilogy nor Amazon's Rings of Power series lived up to expectations, or came anywhere close to the quality of the original movies, but that won't be the end of it.
With the recent announcement that Warner Bros. will be releasing multiple Lord of the Rings projects over a reported multi-year deal, it seems as though this is a franchise now fully in the state of being milked completely dry. Immediately these films feel less about exploring Tolkien's legendary world and more like a cash grab.
You'd be forgiven for thinking WB might have waited on the response to the upcoming animated prequel, The Lord of the Rings: War of the Rohirrim, before announcing anything new, but apparently the studio hasn't learned anything from jumping the gun on both its Fantastic Beasts and King Arthur plans.
There is one caveat in this. Should this new Lord of the Rings project turn out to be an adaptation of The Silmarillion, it may receive a slightly better reception. But even then, it would still have to be spectacular.
