10 Upcoming Movies That Have Cast Completely The Wrong Person

4. Samuel L. Jackson - Miss Peregrine's Home For Peculiar Children

Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children is one of the best-loved young adult books of the last few years, so it makes sense that a movie version is on its way. Directed by Tim Burton, the film - starring Asa Butterfield and Eva Green - concerns a 16-year-old boy's adventures as he meets freaky characters, travels through time and hunts monsters. Oh, and by the way, Samuel L. Jackson is playing a villainous character named Mr. Barron in the flick - one who wasn't even in the original book. Uh... It's not as if Samuel L. Jackson has been miscast, exactly, because the character is new to the movie version; it's more that he doesn't gel at all with the rest of the cast in the film. He sticks out like a sore thumb, and is sure to distract from the mood of the piece. Reading Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children, you don't get the feeling that Sam Jackson would be an appropriate fit at any point in the story. It's not that kind of book. None of this is to deride Jackson as an actor; he's one of Hollywood's best assets, and frequently elevates mediocre pictures to a place where they're at least watchable because, hey, it's Samuel L. Jackson. But Jackson is mostly loud and abrasive when he's on-screen, whilst the inclusion of a new character seems odd in the first place - like, somehow, Jackson bribed Tim Burton to be involved and a new part had to be created especially for him. Who, then? Given that the character doesn't exist outside of the movie, it's hard to say. Perhaps in this case it's better to just cut the character out entirely and stick to what's on the page?
