10 Upcoming Movies That Have Made Terrible Mistakes Already
6. Getting Sonic Wrong - Sonic The Hedgehog
They say no publicity is bad publicity, but Sonic The Hedgehog is pushing that to the limit...
It’s true that more people have heard of the movie than might have without the controversy around the terrible trailer and Sonic’s awkward character model, but is this likely to translate to ticket sales? The odds don’t look good, frankly.
They tried to make Sonic far too humanoid to suit the live-action nature of the movie, but when your protagonist is a five foot talking blue hedgehog, you have to chuck realism out and roll with the punches.
Sonic’s release has been pushed back so they can ‘fix’ the design, but that seems like a huge ask. There’s even a conspiracy theory that we were shown the ‘bad’ Sonic on purpose, and that they actually have a much better design ready to go.
If that’s true, it’s smart (if more than a little shady), but it won’t fix the dated humour, sub-par action and flawed concept we’ve seen so far.
The fact nobody asked for a Sonic movie in the first place has only amplified the negative reaction, and the movie looks dead before it's even hit the ground.
