10 Upcoming Movies That Have Made Terrible Mistakes Already
4. Throwing Out The Source Material - Dora And The Lost City Of Gold
It’s tempting to be cynical and just say Dora’s big mistake is existing, but that’s plainly not true.
Dora The Explorer is a beloved childhood show with a cute, distinctive aesthetic, is hugely interactive and plays an important role in teaching children the importance of learning languages.
Unfortunately, the movie looks set to be none of that.
They’ve made the strange decision to make it live action, despite the success of the cartoon, and seem to be trying to make her Lara Croft lite. It’s probably to draw in the adult audience - Dora hasn’t been around long enough to ensnare the nostalgia market - but could come at the cost of the target demographic of children.
It doesn’t help that the trailer has been roundly mocked online. Like Sonic, there’s the argument that no publicity is bad publicity, but unlike Sonic, Dora isn’t changing anything.
A cartoon Dora movie made specifically for kids might have enjoyed real success; so far, this looks like a misfire. Given that big names like Michael Pena, Benicio Del Toro and Eva Longoria are featuring (not to mention that there looks to be some stunt work), this live action one was probably more expensive too.
