10 Upcoming Movies That Have Made Terrible Mistakes Already
3. Trading Down On The Villain - Becky
Upcoming action thriller Becky has had to replace its central villain after Simon Pegg had to drop out due to scheduling conflicts. It’s the kind of thing which, while unfortunate for Pegg and his fans, happens all the time in Hollywood. However, Becky has taken the bizarre decision to replace their antagonist with chubby funnyman Kevin James.
There are some movies where you could have switched out Pegg for James without really damaging the final film. Flicks like Man Up, Hector And The Search For Happiness and Ice Age all come to mind. Though they have slightly different fanbases and senses of humour, they’re both comedians, after all.
Becky though called for something different. While there’s some movies where James could step into Pegg’s shoes, you wouldn’t really say the same of his turns in Star Trek or Mission Impossible. Even stuff like Shaun Of The Dead feels like too much of an ask.
Though James has occasionally shown glimpses of more intelligent gags in King Of Queens, he usually goes for lowest common denominator laughs; Paul Blart being the best example. Very little in his career suggests he can be a serious actor, and Becky might be a bridge too far.
