10 Upcoming Movies That Nobody Asked For

6. Sherlock Gnomes

The 'movies based on gnome-related puns' subgenre is a very niche one, so much so that it currently numbers precisely one movie and its upcoming sequel. A full seven years after Gnomeo & Juliet surprised everyone by raking in $194m at the box office and winning the Golden Globe for Best Original Song (performed by Elton John and Lady Gaga, obviously), March 23 brings us the eye-rollingly titled Sherlock Gnomes.

The title is pretty much the entire synopsis; gnomes start to go missing so Gnomeo & Juliet enlist the help of Sherlock Gnomes and imaginatively-titled sidekick Gnome Watson to track them down. In a seemingly further attempt to deliberately sabotage his own career, Johnny Depp voices the title character.

The cast reads more like that of a prestige drama than an animated caper about garden ornaments, with leads James McAvoy and Emily Blunt joined by Academy Award nominees Chiwitel Ejiofor and Mary J. Blige, two-time Academy Award nominee Julie Walters and two-time Academy Award winners Michael Caine and Maggie Smith. Oh, and Ozzy Osbourne voices an ornamental deer because why the f**k not.

The recent work of Pixar, Dreamworks and Disney Animation has raised the bar for the genre as a whole, and packing an animated movie full of easy gags and pop-culture references just isn't going to cut it any more and in yet another crowded year for family movies, there just doesn't seem to be any reason to give a sh*t about Sherlock Gnomes at all.

I don't do social media, so like or follow me in person but please maintain a safe distance or the authorities will be notified. Don't snap me though, I'll probably break. I was once labelled a misogynist on this very site in a twenty paragraph-long rant for daring to speak ill of the Twilight franchise. I stand by what I said, it's crap.
