10 Upcoming Movies-Turned-TV Shows To Watch After Westworld
2. Jack Ryan
The Films
Migrating his way from Tom Clancy’s novels, the unassuming CIA analyst has had five film outings over the past 25 years. Take your pick from: Alec Baldwin, Harrison Ford (twice), Ben Affleck or Chris Pine, as to which Hollywood heavyweight has delivered the definitive Ryan.
If you said Harrison Ford, you were correct.
The TV Show
So, no pressure on John Krasinski (The Office USA) then, stepping into the Ryan role. With Mace Neufield (who produced the original Ryan movies) and Carlton Cuse (producer of mind-melding hit Lost), the show is heading for release on Amazon Prime in 2017.
The ten-episode opening season promises a reinvented, modernised take on the character, as a young analyst climbing the CIA ranks while confronting a global terror threat.
Will It Work?
Krasinski obviously has some big shoes to fill but the Ryan character has remained endearingly (and enduringly) popular over the past quarter century.
The series is being talked about as a ten-hour movie, which will appeal to the binge watchers and those who’ve been waiting for another 24-style thriller. With a movie style budget and the backing of an ever more ambitious Amazon, this has real potential.
