6. Possessor

Having just premiered at the 2020 Sundance Film Festival, there's a strong possibility that we'll see Possessor later this year, though nothing has been confirmed just yet.

Whatever the case, the sooner it drops, the better, because it sounds all kinds of awesome, and we can't wait to see it.

It's been described as a gory horror-thriller revolving around brain-implant technology, with skilled agent Tasya Vos plugging herself into other people's bodies, committing murders via her surrogate hosts in order to remove herself from the scene of the crime. However, things take a turn when she finds herself trapped inside the mind of a man, leading to all sorts of complex identity struggles.

Even without that extra plot thread about Tasya being stuck inside another person's body, the premise of a mind-jacking assassin is absolutely genius, and hints at an untold amount of tense, morally-grey sequences where Tasya has to carry out a murder while controlling an innocent civilian.

On top of its terrific sci-fi concept, reviewers at Sundance also noted how the movie is an absolute gore-fest, with frequent showerings of violence that will test the squeamishness of the audience. Sign. Us. Up.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
