10 Upcoming Movies with INSANE Plots
The wildest upcoming movies you won't want to miss.
The most oft-repeated complaint about Hollywood is that originality is dead, and given how eagerly studios pore over their back catalogue of movies in the pursuit of sequels, remakes, reboots, and so on, it's tough to blame people for feeling this way.
And so, truly original or at least compellingly unique films have all the more value to adventurous audiences seeking out something that isn't a recognisable franchise or - gulp - a piece of "IP."
There's something to be said for filmmakers who dare to push the boat out and do something totally wild in a creative environment as conservative and risk-averse as the present.
And these 10 movies are definitely that, each touting an immediately attention-grabbing premise that's far from the same old genre offering we've all seen dozens, even hundreds of times before.
Now of course a nutty, singular concept alone doesn't a good movie make, but it's a start.
It remains to be seen if the filmmakers can parlay these bonkers ideas into a genuinely worthy end result, but all the same, they're already getting people talking, which is really half the battle these days...
10. The School Duel
Let's kick this list off with what's sure to be one of the most controversial films of the year - The School Duel.
Todd Wiseman Jr.'s thriller takes place in a dystopian near-future Florida, where gun control has been abolished and the state has come up with a radical solution to curb school shootings - hosting a statewide competition where students fight to the death.
Quite how the full logic of this concept tracks remains to be seen, but given that gun control and specifically school shootings are one of America's great contentious issues, any film that engages with these concepts as heightened genre entertainment is going to draw a heavily polarised response.
The title suggests it'll be more of a 1v1 affair rather than an especially unhinged, stateside take on Battle Royale, but don't be shocked if this one is just too politically sensitive to get much of a substantial release, and ends up being quietly sloughed onto streaming in most territories, regardless of its actual quality.
