10 Upcoming Movies With TERRIBLE CGI
5. Wonka
VFX aren't necessarily always awful just because of their pure visual fidelity, but sometimes they simply fail from a design and execution perspective, as is the case with Hugh Grant's Oompa Loompa-ification in the upcoming Wonka prequel.
Though there's a solid chance the movie ultimately turns out relatively well, coming from Paddington director Paul King as it is, the decision to have Hugh Grant digitally transformed into an Oompa Loompa has proven wildly divisive online.
For one, there's the furore over Grant effectively taking a job that could've been performed by an actual little person, and then there's the generally nightmarish quality of seeing Grant's head crudely pasted onto what appears to be the digital body of an Oompa Loompa.
Even if you try to forget what Grant looks like in reality, it tumbles straight into the creepy uncanny valley. Not great for a movie aimed squarely at children - even accepting how terrifying 1971's Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory actually was.
Wonka? More like wonky, right?
