2. Joker: Folie A Deux

Easily ranking as one of the biggest unanticipated successes of modern times by the time Joaquin Phoenix's Arthur Fleck shimmied down a set of steps in 2019, the news of Todd Phillips giving his Joker a push into sequel territory felt pretty inevitable; despite the fact the flick was initially conceived as a standalone.

Jump forward a few years, and fans of the psychological thriller/character study of a DC entry were overjoyed to hear of The Clown Prince of Crime returning for another murky tale. Only, in an appropriately hilarious swerve of sorts, it was quickly made known that this wasn't set to be any old second coming of Mr. J... Joker: Folie à Deux would be a musical, of course!

And just like that any expectations, good or bad, about what was about to be dreamed into reality by Phillips, Phoenix and an incoming Lady Gaga were well and truly shattered.

Heading into what is being described as more "A Star is Born" territory than "In The Heights", this $150 million follow-up is evidently marching to the beat of its own drum and you can bet a similar amount of fans as last time will be lining up to witness the chaos.
